With a name like Green Iguana Bath, you know that what ever you get from this small business, is going to be unique. The owner, Laura Staley does not disappoint. Read below and get to know this wonderful maker of handcrafted bath, body, beauty, and lifestyle goods. They even have men's soap and beard products. See, we told you that at the Handmade Collectives Spring Market, we have something for your pops too!
Why did you start working in this particular craft?
After supplying my family with our own soap, and being confident with the recipes I developed, I realized I was having too much fun to quit.
What valuable experience/knowledge did you have before starting your business?
I’ve been in sales since I was 15. Building businesses from ground up gave me experience I needed to launch my own.
Is there a special meaning behind your name?
Yes!! Before we started using handcrafted soap, I used to tease my husband about his “lizard skin.” As a former Crohn’s patient, his system does not process Vitamin B efficiently to rejuvenate his skin (or cholesterol, for that matter). Handcrafted, natural soap really improved his skin. Once I started making it for our family, and considered starting a business, my efforts became “Green Iguana Bath.” No more lizard skin, darling!
How do you come up with a concept for new scents?
I’ve been known to lurk the soap displays at Whole Foods on Friday nights. Actually. Scents are like painting with fragrance. I have my favorites, and have found inspiration in candles, perfumes, nature, and just the everyday. I use both essential oils and skin-safe fragrance oils, sometimes blending them for new combinations.
What is your favorite scent and why?
I have a few blends that I really like. I personally prefer a “green” blend like moss, mint, lavender, evergreens, and woods, like my “Lizzy Bennet” soap. Refreshing blends like the Eucalyptus, Lavender and Mint in “Cool Breeze” are a go-to on hot sweaty summer days, and my “Salty Dog” (Grapefruit, Eucalyptus and Lavender) reminds me of the ocean. Another favorite blend I made for myself, which shows up in my “Hippie Chick” soap, is a blend of Dragon’s Blood, Patchouli, and Rose.
Is there anything you would like the public to know about you?
I am passionate about small business ownership and entrepreneurship. I love to team up with other small business, cross promote, and encourage people to live their dreams, go out on a limb, and make it happen.
